Man accused of killing 4 people in April may face death penalty

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - A man who police say went on a killing spree will face the possibility of the death penalty.

Tasia Mason, Bridget Carter, William Bowen and Michael Eves were all gunned down in April within a few hours and police say they are all victims of one man: Alto Miles.

Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters said, “Alto Miles killed four people here in Hamilton County, possibly in as short a time as three or four hours, clearly a homicidal, dangerous individual.”

Four families are left broken, and according to the prosecutor's office, it was all about jealousy and revenge.

“The defendant upon arrest told the investigators upon arrest, had they not stopped him, had they not stopped him, he would've continued to kill,” Deters said.

Police say Miles shot and killed Mason and Carter at an apartment in North Avondale. Bowen and Eves were found dead in an apartment on Reading Road in Avondale.

Prosecutors say Miles murdered Mason and Carter because they provoked him by looking at men's pictures on Facebook.

The murders of Bowen and Eves were in response to one of them beating up Miles in the weeks leading up to the killings, and the other was a witness Miles couldn't leave behind.

“While this is the first step in Mr. Miles being held accountable for these horrible crimes, we hope the charges will bring some comfort to the families,” Cincinnati Assistant Police Chief Teresa Theetge said.

To date, there've been 37 homicides in Cincinnati. That's more than double the number this time in 2019, but CPD homicide detectives have a high closure rate of 74%.

They're hoping that getting killers arrested quickly helps families heal.

Miles is in jail on a $4-million bond.
