Man found guilty in 'disturbing' beating, abduction to be sentenced Friday
He "viciously" beat a woman in July 2019 and kept her captive in a bathroom until she clawed her way through the wall, then he eluded police for weeks, prosecutors say.
Curtis Scott, 45, was found guilty in a September jury trial of kidnapping, abduction and felonious assault. He will be sentenced Friday.
Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters say Scott faces up to 22 years in prison.
"The victim endured a horrible beating at the hands of Scott. She was able to eventually get away from him and lock herself in her bathroom," Deters said.
Police documents state Scott fired a gun through the door of her West End apartment in an attempt to kill her.
"Scott held her hostage for 16 hours," Deters said. "The victim literally clawed her way through her bathroom wall and contacted neighbors to alert the police."
When Cincinnati police and then a SWAT team arrived to arrest Scott, he fled and managed to elude the authorities for three more weeks before his arrest.
Deters praised the victim, who The Enquirer is not naming due to the nature of the offense.
"(She) was a star witness in the trial," Deters said. "I am always amazed at the strength of victims to survive ordeals such as this and then to have the courage to confront their abuser in court. With this verdict, justice prevailed.”
Deters said video captured the beating outside the apartment and that it was "one of the most disturbing videos I have seen."
The Enquirer has viewed the footage and is not publishing it due to its graphic nature.
Scott will appear before Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Jody Luebbers Friday for sentencing.
