Man indicted on murder charge after stray bullet kills Metro bus rider

CINCINNATI — A man has been indicted on several charges -- including murder -- after a stray bullet struck and killed a man riding on a Metro bus.

Joshua Ervin, 30, was indicted Thursday in connection with the shooting death of Neko Larkin, 21.

Ervin was indicted on one count of murder, two counts of felonious assault and one count of weapons under disability.

If convicted of all charges, he faces the possibility of life in prison.

Larkin was riding the bus home from work Aug. 17 on a Metro bus in North Avondale when he was shot and killed. Another rider on the bus was also uninjured.

Police believe two groups of people were firing at each other when the bus drove by. It does not appear that the shooter was aiming for Larkin but Larkin was hit by a stray shot, authorities said.

Larkin was taken to University Hospital, where he died of his injuries.

Larkin had two jobs. He was coming home from one of them when he was killed.

"Ervin and another still uncharged suspect were shooting at one another when the Metro bus driver stopped at a bus stop to pick up a passenger. Unfortunately, Larkin, who was coming home from work and had nothing to do with Ervin's gunfight, was struck and killed," Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters said Thursday.
